Module 1

For my visual rhetoric project I will be creating a 6-slide PowerPoint that argues for immigration. I want to advocate for the will of living the "America Dream". I am not justifying the idea of entering another country illegally by any means instead i want to advocate for their desire to live a dream, to better their lives for themselves and their families. I want to clarify to most who may not understand immigration that it isn't about doing something wrong its about reaching for better opportuinities.
I hope to include in my slides statistics of number of immigrats entering this country, perhaps if possible to find quotes from immigrants themselves explaining their reasoning. As well as giving insite to the extremes that people go through to come for the dream we promote. These people leave behind everything for a chance to give their families a better life. They are willing to work for pretty much nothing becuase to them thats a fortune compared to what they had in their countries. I pretty much want to get into the reasoning for them to come here or at least my understanding of it. To move away from the stereotypes of immigrants being harmful and taking jobs from citizens and so forth.

Mariah Carey’s song entitled “bye bye” is a song that hits hard in all emotional levels. It can make you remember happy thoughts of someone you miss or it can just remind you of the pain you’re going through because of your loss. Mariah Carey dedicates this song to everyone and anyone that has lost a loved one. She talks about the pain of realizing that the person is gone forever yet she emphasizes that she won’t say bye for they’ll live in the memories. I chose this song because I thought about the impact it brought on me when I first heard it this summer. It brought back so many memories of my recent loss. I lost my grandfather a year ago and it was the first time I had to say bye to a loved one. Id says it’s the hardest thing to do, a year later it still seems unreal and hard to accept. When I first heard the song I was on my way to an old friend’s funeral. I thought how ironic that I turn the radio on and this song is on just now out of all moments. When I heard it I didn’t just think of the friend I had just lost but of my grandfather as well. I would say that like Mariah says in her song the hardest thing to do is say bye. I thought of how when I heard of my loved ones being gone I cried wondering if there was something I could do to make them come back. Like she says I think we’d all give the world to see that someone one last time and tell them all the things we didn’t get to because we didn’t know we wouldn’t have that second chance.
I picked the parts of the song that to me meant the most or brought out the deeper meaning of the song. I chose to keep the black font because it is a sad song it really doesn’t have any happy feeling to it so bright colors weren’t an option. I decided to go with the script font because when you hear the song or even read the lyrics you might get the sense that you’re reading a letter. She is pretty much singing directly to the person therefore I also got the letter feel from that. There were words that I felt needed emphasis. For instance the word world to me needed to stand out; I gave it its own line adding blue and green color because to me they represent the world pretty accurate like the globe view. It was important to have this word be big and stand out to emphasize the extreme one would go for that person. I chose to replace the word you with a just the letter u, I felt that the letter it self made more of a stand then the word. I made other words a little bigger and bolder then the rest to again show their power and impact of the feeling represented by the word. For instance the words; strong, gone, hardest, and never. Again everything is pretty simple and black the only other color I used was the red on the word hurt I think that when we think of hurt or pain we think of the color red, most things that warn you or demonstrate some kind of hurt are usually put in red. Bye bye is pretty much faded when sung and since it is the key element to the song I decided to make it a faded font to show the softness of saying the word. When you hear the song there really isn’t much of a difference in tone therefore everything was kept pretty much the same, the words that she seems to emphasize in her singing I pretty much made them bigger and bolder.

Screen Capture

In this screen capture I am working on activity one. The capture shows that I have ctools, google, and word document up. The hidden page is myspace and you can hardly see but msn is hidden as well on the bottom right corner by the time. Activity one was not the hardest composition that i have had to work on ever but this week it was the that has took more time.
I will say that I am very easily distracted when im doing anything. I can not just sit still for more than an hour or so and stare at the same document page all day. If Im online I usually tend to browse away from the work and surf the web. Most of the time I'll have my myspace up and my msn to distract myself from the work. Everyone can use breaks in between it is only fair.

In digital spaces composing has become much easier. People find that working on a composition in the digital form instead of by hand is a lot more efficient and easier to accomplish. Practically everything is at your hands in the digital form. Grammar tools on word documents make composing easier and limit the amount of errors in ones composition. Technology gives you faster results instead of having to go to a library and find some type of research you can have it on your screen within minutes. In todays society practically everything revolves around the web. Whether your emailing each other about an assignment, posting homework, or just using it as a means of communication it is becoming part of the everyday norm.

Airborne Event

Airborne Event by Fred Tomaselli
Airborne Event is a piece of art that takes you to the aritists world. Tomaselli uses bright colors that catch your attention. It's a piece that has so much going on that just takes your mind to a lot of different places. This piece makes you think outside the box in trying to interpret it. There really isn't one right or wrong interpretation of the piece it's pretty much left to the eye of the viewer. Tomaselli likes to create collages from pieces cut out of magazines and so forth. Collages are always interesting they demonstrate a range of different ideas and emotions all pieced in to form one big concept.
